The Parish site [www.stmartinseglwysbach.co.uk] notes: "the first written evidence of a church dates to 1254", but that church has not survived, heving been demolished in 1781; the present building dates from ca. 1790 and underwent a major renovation in 1882. The baptismal font in this church consists of a tub-shaped basin with an octagonal upper end and a round body; one of the sides of the polygon it has a set of numbers (?) [a date?] incised in it; the base is round at the top and octagonal below, with a moulding between; on a pentagonal plinth. The wooden cover is octagonal, flat and plain; appears modern.
