Font Notes:
There is an entry for [Lower and Upper] Froyle [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/XX0000/lower-and-upper-froyle/] [accessed 8 July 2017]; it mentions a church in it. The Parish web site notes: "The present Church was built between 1300 and 1350 [...] 'St.Mary’s Church' [...] must have been built on the site of an even earlier Church, for there was a Vicar at Froyle in 1274". Some sources report a modern [i.e., 19th-century] font in this church; others state that the present font is medieval or late medieval, re-carved in 1864. [NB: the look of the font is modern, matching the mid-19th century dating; access to the upper rim and basin interior may provide more reliable evidence to support or reject the claim -- Froyle had a church in it by 1086, reported in the Domesday survey, but we have no information on the font from that time].
