There is an entry for Newport [Pagnell] [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/SP8743/newport-pagnell/] [accessed 24 February 2016], but it mentions neither cleric nor church in it. Sheahan (1862) reports a "plain and modern" font in this Perpendicular church. The Victoria County History (Buckingham, vol. 4, 1927) notes: "The church of Newport Pagnell, with a hide of land, was among the possessions with which Fulk Paynel endowed the priory of Tickford. [Fulk Paynel, aka Foulques, Foulk, Paganel, Pagnall, Painel, etc., (ca. 1055-1138); the abbey was founded ca. 1100, which posdates that of the church at NP] The east wall of the nave [...] probably incorporates the remains of the central tower of an early cruciform church, but all other parts of the structure were entirely rebuilt in the middle of the 14th century [..] The font is modern." The modern font, in the style of the Aylesbury medieval fonts, is located at west end of the nave, centre aisle.
