There is an entry for this Stowe [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/SP6737/stowe/] [accessed 26 January 2016], but it mentions neither cleric nor church in it. Sheahan (1862) notes a suggested dating of the early 15th century for the fabric of the church but does not mention a font in it. The Victoria County History notes: "The church of Stowe formed with the manor part of the endowment of the college in St. George's Church, Oxford Castle, first mention being found of it in the confirmation charter of 1130. [...] The earliest detail in the building is the late 13thcentury nave arcade". The Parish web site [http://stowechurch.org.uk/history.html] notes: "The earliest parts of the church building date from 1270, when the present nave and chancel were built." The present font is an absurd baluster shape made of twisting and bulging stone topped with an equally ridiculous little cover; probably 18th-century. [NB: we have no information on the medieval font]
