There is an entry for Adestock [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/SP7330/adstock/] [accessed 6 January 2016], but it mentions neither cleric nor church in it. Sheahan (1862) reports the church here as "an ancient edifice [...] The octagonal font is large and ancient". The Victoria County History (Buckingham, vol. 4, 1927) notes: "The church of Adstock, together with a carucate of land, formed part of the grant of William Avenel to the Abbot and convent of St. Mary de Pre, Leicester. [...] The nave walls, up to the sills of the windows, belong to a 12th-century church, the chancel of which was rebuilt about 1330, when the north porch was added. The upper part of the nave walls was taken down and erected anew late in the 15th century, the date of the addition of the tower. The building was restored throughout in 1875 [...] The font is of the 15th century and is octagonal with panelled sides to the bowl." The wooden font-cover is modern, probably 19th-century. [NB: the fabric of the church goes back to the 12th century, but we have no information on its earlier font]
