Noted in Lüer & Creutz (1904). In Eisold & Lautsch (2005). Bronze baptismal font of the early-14th century, consisting of a tub-shaped basin raised on four human figures; the sides of the basin are decorated with a running arcade of pointed geometric arches containg scenes [Left-to-Right]: Annunciation to St. Mary and Visitation together in one side, Nativity, Annunciation to the Shepherds, Adoration of the Magi, Massacre of the Innocents, Presentation of Christ child in the church, Flight to Egypt, Baptism of Christ in the Jordan by John the Baptist. There are inscriptions in the scrolls held by some figures, but most are unreadable now; there are also a few incised inscriptions here and there [e.g., Baptism of Christ scene, blue background above the angel holding Christ's garments, the word "BAPTISTA"]; these are probably later additions. The basin rests on four kneeling figures tipping containers of liquid, the symbols of the Four Rivers of Paradise [Euphrates, Gihon, Hiddekel, Pishon]; the whole is raised on a two-step octagonal plinth, modern. The exterior of the font is painted in bright colours. [NB: the bottom of the basin is concave on the inside, convex on the outside, which accounts for its inner depth being taller than the outer height of its sides]. As it is often the case in these northern parts, a baptismal dish is in use; it is supported by a metal rack atop the basin.
