There are two entries for this Croxton [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/TL2559/croxton/] [accessed 28 April 2016], neither of which mentions cleric or church in it. The RCHM (Cambridgeshire, 1968) notes: "the font at Croxton [...] was presumably placed against the W[est] pier of the S[outh] arcade when the 13th-century bowl received a new stem". The Victoria County History (Cambridge..., vol. 5, 1973) notes: "A church in Croxton is first mentioned c.1217, [...] and parts of the existing fabric of the church are 13th-century. The cap of a 12th-century respond incorporated in the north porch, however, indicates the existence of an earlier church [...] Most of the architectural features of that date have been replaced in the course of later alterations, but the nave arcade, the west windows of the aisles, the north window of the chancel, and the south doorway are all original, as is the piscina in the south aisle and the bowl of the font."
