The second entry in Palissy [ref.: IM68007603] mentions Muller-Dietrich's identification of the base as that of a pillar: "Base sculptée qui pourrait avoir soutenu des fonts baptismaux, bien que cela soit assez hypothétique ; d'après Muller-Dietrich cette base proviendrait plutôt d'un pilier architectural. There are actually two baptismal fonts in the church of Saint-Martin: a modern one consisting of an ornate cylindrical basin raised on five shafts with couchant lions below, on an octagonal lower base; the metal (?) cover is round and flat, with a decorated top; it is located in one of the chapels. Braun (2010) notes and illustrates the base of a baptismal font which she suggests is Romanesque; the red sandstone block of roughly square shape, decorated on three of its sides with lions and with a siren holding its tails at head level on the fourth; the block is very weathered, and the details of the carving are quite faint. [NB: the older parts of the church date from the early 12th-13th century; the old font base may be of that period]
