Font Notes:
White (1878) reports that the church, with the exception of the chancel, "was destroyed by fire on March 5, 1871; the new building "was erected in 1873", with designs by Sir Arthur W. Bloomfield; an "octagonal, of Caen stone, [...] beautifully carved" noted in White (ibid.) was presumably the new replacement for the one destroyed in the fire. The modern font is located inside the church, at the west end of the south aisle [NB: a church is reported to have existed here since the mid-13th century, but the building that was affected by the fire appears to have dated chiefly from the 16th century -- we have no information on the destroyed font]
