Font Notes:
No entry found for Hamble-le-Rice in the Domesday survey. White (1878) reports "an ancient font" in this church. The Victoria County History (Hampshire, vol. 3, 1908) notes: "The church of St. Andrew has a chancel and nave of equal width, 19 ft., and approximately equal length, about 43 ft. in each case. The unusual proportion is due to the fact that the chancel was the church of the alien priory of Hamble, while the nave served for that of the parish [...] The font, which stands under the tower, is modern and of the same design as that in Littlemore Church, Oxfordshire." The entry for this church in Historic England [Listing NGR: SU4841706782] reports a Victorian font in it. The present font is modern, of stone, profusely decorated and with an inscription around the side of the upper rim. [NB: we have no information on the present whereabouts of the earlier font reported in White (1878)]
