According to SIPA [http://www.monumentos.gov.pt/Site/APP_PagesUser/SIPA.aspx?id=8720] [accessed 8 September 2025] the present church is late 18th century, but there are references to its predecessor (Eclaesia de Sancti Martini de Baauli) as early as 1258; it mentions a medieval font in it: "A pia baptismal é provavelmente de fábrica medieval." Plain hemispherical basin made of granite, raised on a plain circular pedestal base. The basin upper rim sides appear to have been repaired.
