Noted and illustrated in Valle Barreda (2009). Noted and illustrated in Romanico Digital [www.romanicodigital.com/sites/default/files/pdfs/files/burgos_HORTEZUELOS.pdf] [accessed 11 March 2021] as the only Romanesque remnant of the earlier church here. The entry for this village in Emiliano Nebreda Perdiguero [www.archiburgos.es/wp-content/uploads/amo-a-mi-pueblo.pdf] [accessed 11 March 2021] reports the present church as modern, "edificada en 1857", but, "La pila es románica, con gallones finos, cenefa vegetal en relieve en el borde, pie cuadrado con relieve, buena", obviously from an earlier church here as the parish registers go back to the 16th century: "Sus libros parroquiales dan comienzo en el año 1579". Baptismal font of stone consisting of a hemispherical basin decorated with a roll moulding at the upper rim, a nicely-rendered vine below, and a regular ribbed pattern on the lower sides and underbowl; two metal staples at opposite ends of the upper rim; short square foot decorated with 4-petal flowers inscribed in a diamond pattern. No cover present.
