A baptismal font here made of brass and dating from 1579 is described and illustrated in Denmarks Kirker [http://danmarkskirker.natmus.dk/uploads/tx_tcchurchsearch/Frederiksborg_0039-0289.pdf] [accessed 17 November 2016] as having replaced an earlier font here ["den gamle, os ukendte, døbefont afløstes af den nuværende, af messing."]; the present font in the Baroque baptistery is described as a font donated to the church in 1579 by writer and politician Frantz Lauritzen, of Kronenborg, and his wife; the font consists of a round tapering basin raised on a round pedestal decorated with multiple mouldings, and a splaying lower base raised on four small couchant lions. DK (ibid.) records an inscription on the sides of the basin: "Anno Christi 1579 lod Frantz Lavritzen oc hans kiere hustru Bente Pofvels daater bekaaste denne daabfunt, oc giffvet hannem til S. Olai kircke udi Helsingør. Soli deo gloria", followed by a charged shield; on the base is another inscription: "Vecten er XII hondrit pond". The font cover is domed in shape decorated with stylised floral motifs; it hangs from a hoist that is no longer operational; it bears an inscription, also recorded in DK (ibid.): "Frantz Lavritzen 1579 sit nomen domini benedictum" with Christ's monogram inserted mid-phrase. One other font is present in this cathedral church: an extremely ornate object made of wood, of the type which is used in combination with a removable nasin or baptismal dish; the sides of the 'basin' are decorated with large cherub heads facing out; local information dated the font 1929; there is baptismal dish in the treasure museum of the cathedral which may have been used with this wooden font.
