Church Notes: medieval church demolished 1855-1856; new church built on new site, consecrated 1854;
Noted in Hallbäck (1966) and (1971) as a baptismal font made of sandstone in the 12th century probably by master Andreas [cf. infra]; it had been found disused in Åsunden in 1876 and sent to the Göteborgs museum; in 1981 the museum returned it to the new church. The archival records of the Göteborgs stadsmuseum note that this baptismal font had been found [ca. 1876?] in the Tvärred churchyard; it was later moved to the Göteborgs stadsmuseum where it remained until 1981 [ref. G.M. 299:1-2. The Museum records further note its return to the parish church in 1981. Described and illustrated in the SHM Medeltidens bildvärld [ref.: 920609F2] with suggested date ca. 1200 and the material identified as sandstone; this source notes the attribution to Andreas in Hallbäck (1971) obviously not agreeing with it, and attributing it instead to a regional workshop [="Upphovsman: regional verkstad"]. The font consists of a round basin with veryical sides and a tall chamfered underbowl, raised on a round splaing base with a thick roll moulding at its neck; the basin sides are decorated with a two-strand interlace of linked circles, and has suffered quite a bit of damage; the underbowl has large rib-like leaves all around; the lower base has three grooves as well as the mentioned moulding. The inner basin well is un-lined and has a central drain hole. A new font is reported installed in the new church in 1949 but we have no information on it, being presumabli modern.
