Noted and illustrated in Montelius & Brusewitz (1878), who inform the font was already at the museum in Göteborg at the time. Noted in Roosval & Gardell (1944) as a font of the 'Knippekolonnmästaren' group. In Hallbäck (1961). In Nordström (1984). Described and illustrated in Medeltidens bildvärld [ref.: 920901F6] as a baptismal font made of soapstone and dated to the 13th century; in the Göteborgs stadsmuseum; the SHM entry mentions the attribution to the 'Knippekolonnmästaren' in Roosval & Gardell cf. supra] but does not endorse it. On-site notes: the font consists of a quatrefoil basin -inside and out- raised on a pedestal made of four clustered colonnettes decorated with moulded capitals and bases, and a lower base made up of three protome lions that appear to be devouring humans. The outer upper side of the basin is decorated with three motifs: on one side is a single plan or flower, that could also be interpreted as a schematic bird; to the left is a series of round arch-heads with foliage inserts; to the right is a schematic arcade of round arch-heads of seemingly horse-shoe shape. The inner well of the basin is quatrefoil-shaped, like the exterior; it appears to have had a central drain hole, but in its place is now a metal rod that may be a reinforcement to keep the font stable. The lower base is triangular and appears to be intact. [triangular bases are rare on medieval fonts]. There is no font cover, nor are there taces of cover hardware on the basin. The inner well of the basin is not lined.
