Lewis' Topographical Dictionary of 1868 mentions only a modern church. The Victoria County History (Essex, vol. 3, 1922) notes: "Parish Church of St. Margaret was entirely rebuilt in 1875 but retains from the old church the following [fittings]"; no font among them. This church is noted Bettley & Pevsner (2007) as a re-building of the medieval building, later re-modelled in the 1870s; it was finally demolished in 1933. [NB: we have no information on the font(s) of that church].
