Font Notes:
Baptismal font of a general late-Medieval design predominant in East Anglia, consisting of an octagonal basin with vertical sides decorated with demi-angels holding shields, alternating with seated lions (?); angel heads or flowers (?) on angles of the underbowl; standing figures (?) against the stem; octagonal plinth. The wooden cover is an octagonal pyramid, with decorated sides, raised arrises and metal ball finial; appears modern. [NB: In his description of the church at Leigh [Leigh-on-Sea?], Benton (1867-1888) reports a copy of the font at Pritwell made for the church at Leigh, which "has on one of its panels the badge of England and Arragon [sic], the rose and pomegranate grafted, which denoted the period of its execution". It cannot be the present font]. [NB: Leigh-on-Sea is part of Southend-on-Sea; the latter has no early fonts in its several churches]
