There are three entries for this Brompton [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/SE9482/brompton/] [accessed 5 March 2018], one of which, in the lordship of Berengar of Tosny, mentions a priest and a church int it. Bulmer's Directory of 1890 notes: "The church of All Saints is a building of stone in the decorated and perpendicular styles [...] In 1750 the chancel was shortened. The interior of the tower shows that it has been constructed out of the materials of a Norman edifice, many remains of Norman mouldings being built in the wall. In 1879-80, the church was partially restored"; it does not mention a font in it. The Victoria County History (North Riding, vol. 2, 1923) notes: "A church existed on this site before the 12th century, and fragments of this date are built into the present structure, but the earliest work remaining in situ is of the 14th century. To this date belong the tower and spire and the west end of the north aisle, but the rest of the church was completely rebuilt in the following century, when a vice was added to the earlier tower. The church was extensively restored in 1878, all the roofs being renewed, and a south porch was added in 1895 [...] The moulded circular font dates from the 14th century." The entry for this church in English Heritage [Listing NGR: SE9429282129] reports: "C13 circular font with traces of cable moulding on a cylindrical pedestal."
