Font Notes:
There are two entries for Colne [Engaine] [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/TL8530/colne-engaine/] [accessed 13 June 2018], neither of which mentions priest or church in it. The Victoria County History (Essex, vol. 10, 2001) notes: "The church building dates from the 12th century, and there was a chaplain at Colne Engaine c. 1170. [...] The church was restored in 1873 [...] All the furnishings were replaced." The present octagonal font and cover, located at the west end of the nave, south side, appear to be a 19th-century replacement of the medieval font [NB: we have no information on the earlier font]
