No entry found for Chappel in the Domesday survey. The Victoria County History (Essex, vol. 10, 2001) notes: "The church, then a chapel of Great Tey, was recorded in 1285.[...] By the mid 16th century Chappel [...] seems to have become an independent parish [...] The 19th-century font came from Kelvedon in 1952." The SEAX-EssexArchives Online database [http://seax.essexcc.gov.uk/result_details.asp?DocID=26954] [accessed 13 July 2010] has a baptism register for 1813-1857 [ref. D/P 134/1/7] with "At front: note of gift of new font by Revd Charles Dalton to commemorate his fiftieth year in parish, July 1854" [NB: was this the font moved to Chappel?]
