Font Notes:
There are three entries for this Bradwell [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/SP8339/bradwell/] [accessed 2 February 2016], none of which mentions cleric or church in it. Sheahan (1862) reports a plain font in his church. The Victoria County History (Buckingham, vol. 4, 1927) note in the medieval church: "The advowson when first recorded was shared between William de Bayeux and Robert de Bradwell, by whom it was bestowed about the middle of the 12th century on Newport or Tickford Priory, this grant being confirmed by the Bishops of Lincoln in the 12th and 13th centuries. [...] The nave, and probably the chancel, date from the early 13th century [...] The font has an old octagonal bowl, but the stem is modern." [NB: a note in The Architect (issue of 8 November 1873) on the re-opening of the church at Bradwell on 30 October 1873 by the Bishop of Oxford, gives the dedication as St. Peter and St. Paul, and reports that the old font has been restored and placed beneath the tower; it is not clear which Bradwell this is; there are no churches in the Diocese of Oxford matching the Bradwell and St. Peter & Paul criteria].
