There are two entries for this Boxted [variant spellings] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/TL9933/boxted/] [accessed 12 June 2018], neither of which mentions priest or church in it. The Victoria County History (Essex, vol. 10, 2001) notes: "In the earlier 12th century the church was split into moieties [...] The church known as St. Peter since 1848, [...] formerly St. Mary, [...] Built primarily of rubble with puddingstone and Roman brick, the nave, chancel arch, and tower are early 12th-century.[...] The font has a modern bowl, on an apparently early 19th-century artificial stone stem." [NB: the fabric of the church goes back to Norman times, but we have no information on the earlier font(s)]
