Scene Description: Source caption: "This church has been in the deanery of Kidderminster since the 13th Century. Tradition claims a Saxon church here. A priest of Wolverley is recorded in the Domesday Book (1086). A replacement church, then consisting of a new chancel and nave attached to the east side of a stone built tower of the earlier church, was consecrated on 20th September 1772."

There is an entry for Wolverley [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://domesdaymap.co.uk/place/SO8279/wolverley/] [accessed 2 October 2014; it reports a priest and church lands in it without a mention a church, though there probably was one there. Miller (1890) reports: "The font is of the date of the Tudors, embellished with a Tudor rose." The Victoria County History (Worcester, vol. 3, 1913) notes: "There was a priest at Wolverley in 1086. [...] The church with its tithes and lands was given by Bishop Roger (1164–79) to the priory. [...] The present church [...] replaces an older one pulled down in 1769 [...] There is a pewter almsdish, and the bowl of the font is lined with the same material." English Heritage [Listing NGR: SO8288879317] (1958) reports a "Font in Gothick style" in this church. Brooks & Pevsner (2007) note: "Font. Gothic, hexagonal, concave-sided; probably late C17."
