There are two entries for Shelsley [Beauchamp and Walsh] [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://domesdaymap.co.uk/place/XX0000/shelsley-beauchamp-and-walsh/] [accessed 27 October 2014], neither of which mentions cleric or church in it. Miller (1890) reports a church here with "interesting specimens of the 12th and 13th century work", but mentions no font in it. The Victoria County History (Worcester, vol. 4, 1924) notes: "The advowson is mentioned as early as 1287 [...] The nave dates from the early part of the 12th century, but the north doorway is an insertion of about 1160 [...] The font has an early 12th-century circular bowl of sandstone; it is plain and somewhat cuplike in shape, and has a modern moulded base." English Heritage [Listing NGR: SO7214362941] (1959) reports: "Tall, cylindrical C12 font with moulded base." Brooks & Pevsner (2007) report a "round Norman font, restored 1908". Noted and illustrated in the CRSBI (2014): "a plain font, of uncertain date [...] Made of light-grey sandstone. Plain, egg-cup shape with sides of double-curved profile; drain hole but no lead lining. Modern base and plinth. The font was moved from the church during 19thc. restorations, but reinstated when its replacement was destroyed in 1908. The broken pieces were then reassembled."
