Scene Description: Source caption: "The tower of All Saints church is 14th century, the rest of the church dates from 1846-7 to a design by Cranston in a style dating to around 1300. Pevsner describes the building as 'a remarkably competent job for a relatively unknown architect.'"

There are two entries for Shelsley [Beauchamp and Walsh] [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://domesdaymap.co.uk/place/XX0000/shelsley-beauchamp-and-walsh/] [accessed 27 October 2014], neither of which mentions cleric or church in it. Miller (1890) reports the 14th-century tower in the church re-built in 1847, but does not mention a font in it. The Victoria County History (Worcester, vol. 4, 1924) notes: "The advowson of Shelsley Beauchamp is mentioned for the first time in 1194 [...] The church was rebuilt in 1846 in the 13thcentury style. The only remaining part of the old church is the tower, which dates from the 14th century [...] The bowl of the font is probably of the 13th century; it is of light limestone and circular in form with a plain body slightly diminishing in diameter towards a bead and splay at the foot; the red sandstone octagonal plinth is perhaps later in date." Brooks & Pevsner (2007) suggest the plain font is "C12-C13". The font consists now of a round tapering basin of two volumes, raised on a round stem of a whitish stone, an octagonal lower base of reddish sandstone, and an octagonal plinth with kneeling stone. The wooden cover is round, flat and plain; it appears modern. The lead lining appears new and wraps about an inch over the upper rim.
