Scene Description: Source caption: "The church as it is today was built over many years. The tower is the oldest part dating from around the year 1200, the spire is a little later. The old nave fell into disrepair and was demolished in 1837 and was replaced with the present one which was built by John Mills and consecrated in 1840. The rector at this time was Henry Percival, son of Spencer Percival, the British Prime Minister, shot in 1812 by John Bellingham. The church is in the care of the Historic Churches Preservation Trust."

There is an entry for Elmley [Lovett] [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://domesdaymap.co.uk/place/SO8669/elmley-lovett/] [accessed 17 September 2014]; it reports a priest in it but does not mention a church, though there probably was one there. Miller (1890) reports a church re-built in 1840, except for the 13th-century tower, and a modern font in it. The Victoria County History (Worcester, vol. 3, 1913) notes: "A priest is mentioned at Elmley in the Domesday Survey, and from this the existence of a church at that date may perhaps be inferred." The VCH entry (ibid.) dismisses the church: "rebuilt in 1840, and is of little architectural interest" and does not mention a font in it. English Herirage [Listing NGR: SO8655269673] (1969) reports a "late C19 font" in it. Brooks & Pevsner (2007) note the medieval fabric of the church and report a font of 1884 in it. [NB: we have no information on the medieval font here].
