There is an entry for Elmbridge [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://domesdaymap.co.uk/place/SO9067/elmbridge/] [accessed 6 November 2014], but it mentions neither cleric nor church in it. Miller (1890) writes: "This was till lately a chapelry of Dodderhill; now it is formed into a separate parish"; he notes "Norman features in thic church", but mentions no font in it. The Victoria County History (Worcester, vol. 3, 1913) notes a church originally from ca. 1200 but "entirely rebuilt in 1872"; a modern font is reported in it. Brooks & Pevsner (2007) report a modern font "carved by William Forsyth". The modern font consists of a square basin with chamfered angles that make it octagonal; the broad sides have carved panels with biblical scenes, the narrow sides floral motifs; moulded underbowl chamfer; on a broad central shaft and four angle colonnettes, all with moulded capitals and bases; round plinth. Flat wooden cover of the same shape as the basin top; carved upper surface; modern as well [NB: we have no information on the font from the ca. 1200 church here].
