Font Notes:
There is an entry for Walton [-le-Dale] [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/SD5528/walton-le-dale/] [accessed 19 October 2018] but it mentions neither cleric nor church in it. The Victoria County History (Lancaster, vol. 6, 1911) notes: "The old font is circular and apparently of 17thcentury date, with two bands of 'egg' ornament on the bowl, and a fluted stem. It has some interesting masons' marks." Hartwell & Pevsner (2009), have: "Perhaps C18, with a fluted bowl." {Are they referring to the same font?]. The entry for this church in Historic England [Listing NGR: SD5614128121] notes: "Church; late medieval tower and chancel (the latter restored 1864) the rest 1902-06 by John Pollard Seddon"; no font mentioned in the entry. [...] parochial chapel of Blackburn until 1837, first built in C12, rebuilt 1798, with transepts added in 1816; nave and transepts demolished and rebuilt on similar lines 1902-06, [NB: we have no information on the medieval font of the earlier building here]
