Scene Description: Source caption: "Wentnor Church - St Michael and All Angels [...] Investigation reveals that parts of the building date from just 10 years after the Domesday Book. This dates it to roughly the year 1100, give or take a bit, although it's thought to stand on older, Saxon, foundations. It was much restored in the 19th century, reopening in 1886, and in truth the only surviving Norman structures are parts of the NW and SW walls. The main nave is thought to be 15th century."

There is an entry for Wentnor [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [https://opendomesday.org/place/SO3892/wentnor/] [accessed 17 October 2020] but it mentions neither cleric nor church in it. Anderson (1864) notes the advowson of the church at Wentnor had been given to Shrewsbury Abbey ca. 1095. The Antiquary (issue for September 1886: 133) comments on "the re-opening of the parish church of Wentnor […] upon completion of the work of restoration", and mentions the new font, among other newly introduced fittings: "The font is a very handsome one, carved to represent flowing water." The present font is modern. The entry for this chuch in Historic England [Listing NGR: SO3836492657] notes: " Parish church. Medieval origins, largely rebuilt using old materials by Henry Curzon in 1886 [...] The advowson of the church was presented to the Abbey of Shrewsbury as early as 1095. [...] late C19 font." [NB: we have no information on the medieval font]
