There is an entry for this Stockton [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [https://opendomesday.org/place/SO7299/stockton/] [accessed 13 December 2019] but it mentions neither cleric nor church in it. Anderson (1864) suggests the church was founded soon after Domesday, and the church did appear in the 1291 taxation. Noted in Newman & Pevsner (2006): "Font. A fine Perp[endicular] piece. Octagonal. Encircled quatrefoils on the bowl, arcading below, on bowl, stem and base." The entry for this church in Historic England [https://britishlistedbuildings.co.uk/101053743-church-of-st-chad-stockton#.XfPcHkd7lrQ] [accessed 13 December 2019] notes: "A church of probable C12 origin, evidence for which is the inclusion of a Norman-style window in the later chancel. The only medieval part of the church is the tower, which is C15 in the lower stages, upper stages of which were completed before 1651. The remainder of the church was rebuilt in 1858-59 [...] The Perpendicular octagonal font has a panelled stem and base."
