Scene Description: the enclosure beneath the west gallery appears to have served a number of purposes; at the time (September 2016) it still contained the medieval font in the left [north] corner; the font would be rescued soon thereafter, restored and moved to the Concatedral of Soria [cf. Noted in García Gómez (2007) as a Romanesque baptismal font, partly built into the wall: one of group of cognate fonts (Castejón del Campo, Hinojosa del Campo, Pinilla del Campo, Sauquillo de Alcázar and Taroda). The font and the semi-abandoned church are reported in the Enciclopedia del Románico en Castilla y León. Soria [http://www.romanicodigital.com/cedar/interior-estado-en-1998-27965.aspx] [accessed 28 August 2020]. Noted and illustrated in Soria Romanica project [http://www.soriaromanica.es/es/iglesias/?iddoc=332] [accessed 25 April 2010]. The bucket-shaped basin is decorated with a moulding at the upper rim [too deteriorated to discern whether roped or not], with a wavy line immediately below, and an acanthus (?) vine below that; the sides are decorated with a blind arcade of round arches on columns with capitals; there is triquetra in each of the spandrels of the arcade; the font rest directly on the ground, in a tiny alcove that is obviously in very poor state of repair and is surrounded by debris, etc. The font itself shows signs of wear and damage. News of the rescue and restoration of this font were reported in Amigos del Románico [www.amigosdelromanico.org/noticia/id_11133.html] [accessed 28 August 2020] dated 29 September 2017: "La JCyL restaura la pila bautismal de Sauquillo de Alcázar". [NB: information from Conchi Almeida, received via Mikel Unanue (e-mail of 26 August 2020) states that the font was removed from the abandoned and semi-ruined church and deposited at the Concatedral de San Pedro, Soria capital].
