The entry for this church in Historic England [Listing NGR: SJ7450519186] notes: "Parish church. Sandstone. Nave with aisles, chancel, south chapel and west tower. Largely rebuilt 1866 and 1883-5 by John Norton in Perpendicular style but retaining C14 west tower and restored C15 roof of nave", but mentions no font in it. The entry for St. Nicholas Church in the Official Newport Shropshire Town Guide 2009-2011 [http://74.125.93.132/search?q=cache:3vlfIaoaA1QJ:www.newportsaloptowncouncil.co.uk/pdfs/Town%2520Guide.pdf+newport+shropshire+st+nicholas+church+font&cd=5&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=ca] [accessed 19 April 2010] notes: "The church today is the result of two massive restorations in 1883 and 1890 […] the original font, found in a local garden, was recovered." The original town were built in the reign of Henry I (1100-1135), but the earliest part of the church is, according to Newman & Pevsner (2006) the west tower.
