Anderson (1864) notes a parson in Hopesay by 1278. Newman & Pevsner (2006) note two fonts in theis church: "Plain Norman and lush Victorian". The Hopesay Parish website [http://www.hopesayparish.org.uk/history.html] [accessed 12 April 2010] notes: "The font dates from 1856; Glynne states that the original Norman font was circular and barrel-shaped and was now (1871) in a farmyard. Another tradition states that this font is now in a church at Bryn, five miles north of Clun."
