The DK entry further notes a 1317 reference to a large candle that supported atop the font, perhaps as part of the cover? On-site visit: Bronze baptismal font consisting of a bucket-shaped basin decorated with an arcade of nine pointed crocketed arches on a floral and foliage backgroun; the arches contain: Crucifixion, coat of arms, Crowned Mary, Christ in Majesty holding a small cross in his left hand, coat of arms [cf. supra], another coat of arms but this one incised rough as if the original one had come off, figure holding a chalice [is it John?], Trinity (Father holding Crucified christ with Holy Ghost atop, another coat of arms; supported on eight (?) standing figures, four of which are angels with open wings holding scrolls, the other four sejeant-gardant lions on a ring-shaped lower base; the upper rim has the characteristic protrusions at opposite ends to secure the old cover; the font is painted. The workmanship, especially the rendering of the figures, is rather crude. The base consists of six figures, human and animal, standing on a lower ring. The upper basin rim has anchorings for a cover locking mechanism but there is no font cover present.
