Font Notes:
Baptismal font of mixed materials [and dates?]; the basin is hemispherical and made of stone, with a number of bands of floral and foliage patterns all around, and four inscribed medallions at 90-degree angles on the sides (symbols and letters inscribed in them); the round pedestal base is made of bronze and is moulded and decoarted with similar floral and foliage patterns as well as ball-in-socket motifs on both the stem and the wider lower base; the bronze cover is shaped like an unpside-down font, the lower half being the hemispherical part, the upper half looking like a stem with, on the top, two statues: St. Martin on horseback and the beggar on foot; the sides of this bronze cover are decorated with a number of floral and foliage motifs, as well as with two bands bearing inscriptions in German identifying its maker, Heinrich Wickerath, and the date of manufacture, 1594. This font and cover (?) have been moved to the church Maria-im-Kapitol, also in Cologne [cf. Index entry for Cologne No.7, St.Maria-im-Kapitol]
