There is an entry for Eyton [-upon-the-Weald-Moors] [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/SJ6514/eyton-upon-the-weald-moors/] [accessed 9 July 2015], but it mentions neither cleric nor church in it. Anderson (1864) suggests that this church "appears to have been founded by the lords of the manor [i.e., the Pantulfs], and always subject to their presentation. It is 'dedicated to St. Catherine'". The Victoria County History (Shropshire, vol. 11, 1985) notes: "Eyton church was recorded in 1336 when William of Kynardeseye was instituted on the death of the previous rector", and reports a font and cover contemporary with the 1743 church that replaced the demolished medieval church.
