Noted and illustrated in Reinhold Spichal's Waren mittelalterliche Bronzetaufbecken auch verkörperte Raummaße? Riechert (2014) gives the decorative elements and identifies the figures: "Der breite Rand wölbt sich nach innen. Riechert further gives the full text of the inscription [cf. InscriptionArea] and gives the font at Eutin as rekated/cognate. On-site notes: the basin is of the characteristic bucket-shape that bell-makers used for these bronze fonts, and rests on four kneeling figures [angels? clerics?], carrying objects (one carries a chrismon container, another appears to have lost his object); the upper lip moulding has a running inscription which includes the name of the maker, Peter Wulf, and the date of the font 1509 [is there a 'C' after the 'D' in the date?]; on the sides of the basin is an arcade of round, almost flat, arches on very slender torsade columns with capitals and bases; in the arches are a number of figures and symbols identified in the local printed guide as follows: St. Catherine, St. Christopher, St. Anne, St. Mauritius, St. John the Baptist, Madonna and Child, St. Nicholas; our own list of the figures starting on the northeast side and reading L-->R: Madonna and Child with third figure holding object --> knight --> Apostle? or possibly John the Baptist holding a lamb? --> Madonna and Child --> bishop --> shields with coat of arms [cf. infra] ---> female figure crowned and with sword, possibly St Margaret? --> St. Christopher; also on the sides are the Lübeck and Mölln coats-of-arms; the lower end of the basin and underbowl are decorated with pattern ornamentation. The conical cover, also of bronze, is raised and lowered via a counterweight system. The font was made in 1509 by Peter Wulf of Lübeck The font is located in a round enclosure of wood and metal, with a gate that opens for access.
