Anderson (1864) describes the church as "a very ancient foundation" that appeared in the 1291 taxation assessment and had an incumbent, Stephen de Clon, in 1277. Newman & Pevsner (2006) note that the present church is chiefly of the 14th century. [NB: we have no information on the medieval font(s) of this church]
