Anderson (1864) writes "Achelard, parson of Caynham, died 1179", and notes that the church there, noted in the 1291 tax assessments, was probably part of the gift given ca. 1080 by Hugh de Mortimer to the Abbey of Wigmore [NB: Hugh de Mortimer (1108-1185). Newman & Pevsner (2006) note a modern font "presume by Brooks" in this church [NB: James Brooks re-built the Norman (?) church in the 1880s. [NB: we have no information on the earlier font(s) of this church]
