The Parish website [http://www.kirchenkreis-wismar.de/Damshagen.26.0.html] [accessed 28 March 2010] attributes the font to the original church of the 1230s. It is of a popular design that was continued in later times as well [like the Paradise fonts of Gotland limestone, to which group this font might well belong]: a hemispherical basin with incised ribbed pattern on the basin sides, raised on a circular stem and a moulded lower base. Noted and illustrated in the German Wikipedia entry for this church [https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/St.-Thomas-Kirche_(Damshagen)] [accessed 30 August 2025] as the oldest piece of equipment in the church: a baptismal font made of Gotlan limestone in the 13th century; it had been stored in the mortuary but was restored by Bruhn, stonemaster from Grevesmühlen; the top metal grid to hold the baptismal basin was made by Reppenhagen, master blacksmith from nearby Klütz: "Ältestes Ausstattungsstück ist eine steinerne Fünte aus Gotland-Kalkstein aus dem frühen 13. Jahrhundert, Der Taufstein, der in der Leichenhalle abgestellt war, wurde nach der Überholung durch den Steinmetzmeister Bruhn aus Grevesmühlen 1959 wieder in der Kirche aufgestellt. Auf dem Taufstein liegt ein schmiedeeisernes Gitter, das der Schmiedemeister Reppenhagen aus Klütz angefertigt hat."
