On-site notes: a large basin of roughly hemispherical shape with a pronounced flat moulding at the upper rim decorated with fleur-de-lys, some inverted; below is a set of four large trefoiled arch-heads, without supports but with decorated capitals at the end of the arches; the spandrels are filled with floral-foliage motifs; one set has large lillies with a border of beaded-tape; the other set has an acanthus plant with arum fruit, also with a border of beaded-tape pattern; the lower end of the basin has a rope moulding, an area of which is damamged; there is also a large area of damage at the east side of the upper rim, quite likely where the anchoring for an old cover was. The general state of wear suggests that this font was exposed to all weathers for a long time, and that it may have been used as a water or animal trough. The trefoiled arches suggest a date in the 13th century, already in the Gothic period, as do the floral patterns on the sides. There is no cover present; the basin has a fixed transparent [glass?] lid on it now. There is no drain hole nor is there a lining inside the well. The basin is raised on a squat plinth, modern. [cf. Index entry for Dortmund No. 3 for the Baroque font in this church]
