The Annscroft Cassey Directory of Shropshire 1871 [reprinted in www.parishmouse.com [accessed 24 March 2010]] notes: "The Moat Hall, the residence of William Wilkinson, Esq., claims attention, from the many interesting and curious carvings in oak contained in the parlour and two upper rooms, one of which is supposed to have been formerly used as a chapel. In the moat, some time ago, was found a stone vessel, supposed to be a font." This must be the same object noted in Newman & Pevsner (2006): "Font. Big tub on a waterholding base."
