Baptismal font illustrated in Anderson (1864). Noted in Newman & Pevsner (2006): "Font. Circular, Norman, fluted on the underside." The font consists of a hemispherical basin decorated with parallel mouldings at the upper rim side, and a striated or ribbed pattern on the bottom of the underbowl; on a round base with moulded sides; stands on a two-step octagonal plinth that is probably modern [NB: the church building is modern, 18th- and 19th-century. We have no documentary evidence of the origin of this font, but there is a reference to an object reported in the 'Salopian shreds and patches' (issue of 5 June 1878: 51) at Moat Hall, about 2-3 kms from Hanwood: "In the garden there is a stone bowl about eighteen inches in diameter, very peculiarly shaped, possibly an ancient church font or a holy water stoup".]
