The InSpain web site [www.inspain.org/es/sitios/colegiatadesantamarialarealdesar.asp] [accessed 15 November 2015] reports a 12th-century baptismal by the main entranceway ["Destaca la pila bautismal, a la derecha de la puerta principal, del siglo XII."], but the font we have information on is modern [cf. Images Area]. The baptismal font in this church is made of granite and consists of a hemispherical basin decorated with a band of round arch-heads over flat ribbed pattern, with added scallops instead of supports at the arch ends; the almost spherical stem and the moulded splaying lower base give the appearance of a modern work. The same is true of the marble insert inside the basin well, with a partition along the centre creating a double basin well, which looks original.
