Country Name: Spain
Location: Guadalajara, Castilla-La Mancha
Directions to Site: Located off the A-2, NW of Abánades, SSE of Laranueva
Font Location in Church: In the covered gallery
Century and Period: 13th century, Late Romanesque
Noted and illustrated in the Enciclopedia del románico en Castilla-La Mancha: Guadalajara (2009), where it is noted that, although the decorative elements on the basin match those of local Romanesque types, the careful execution may point to a later date. The usual motifs include a thin moulding at the upper rim, well-executed round arch-heads below and broad ribs that are tuncated at the bottom, without the usual rounded underbowl; raised on a plain and squat circular base. It gives the impression that the basin has a rounded underbowl with wrapping rib ends, but was chiselled off.
