Harrison (1920) notes a "square restored font with cover", and a "mutilated stoup in the portch. The font here and the one at nearby Ripe appear to have bee somewhat similar originally, and also to have undergone a similar restoration treatment at a later date. Noted and illustrated in the Roughwood British Churches Album [www.roughwood.net/ChurchAlbum/EastSussex/Chalvington/ChalvingtonStBartholomew2004.htm] [accessed 21 February 2010]: "The square restored font with square shaft and very simple moulding is 14th to 15th century and is built against the north wall. It has an 18th century cover with ironwork." [NB: this type of late-medieval square font design is common in Sussex]. The wooden cover is square and flat, with metal decoration and ring handle; a plate on the window sill behind the font relates to an 'to the memory of' donation ca. 1845; this probably refers to the font cover [cf. supra]. The font appears to be partially embeded in the plaster of the interior wall of the nave.
