Harrison (1920) notes a "plain and square" font in this church. Noted and illustrated in the Roughwood British Churches Album [www.roughwood.net/ChurchAlbum/EastSussex/Alfriston/Alfriston-St-Andrew.htm] [accessed 19 February 2010]: "The font is situated immediately in front of the blocked north door. It was moved from a position by the altar rail which it had occupied until 1870. The font consists of a plain square bowl, mounted on a pedestal with octagonal shafts, and may be older than the church." [NB: the earlier position noted above was probably not the original one either]. The font consists of a plain square basin of early date appearance, raised on a broad square pedestal base; there are hinted capitals on the corners of the underbowl chamfer, very stylised, and demi-columns at the angles of the stem with carved bases on the lower base; the details appear modern, despite the massive style of the font. The wooden cover is square and flat, with brass (?) decoration and ring handle; probably Victorian.
