The Berwick Benefice website [http://www.berwickchurch.org.uk/page16.html] [accessed 19 February 2010] notes: "The font is probably 15th century, but has been much restored." Illustrated in the Roughwood British Churches Album [http://www.roughwood.net/ChurchAlbum/EastSussex/Alciston/Alciston.htm] [accessed 19 February 2010] [NB: not only has the font been "much restored", as noted above, but it has also been moved; an old photograph of the church interior shows the font at the north side of the west end, whereas a recent photograph [22 October 2004] shows the font, still at the west end of the nave, but now on the south side]. The font is now plain except for the mouldings on the underbowl and stem. The wooden cover is octagonal, flat and plain; modern [NB: the old photograph mentioned above shows a different cover].
