Hasted (1778- ) writes: "The church, which is the smallest in the diocese, is dedicated to St. Margaret. It consists of an isle and chancel; it was rebuilt in the year 1596, and was again repaired and beautified in 1638", but made no mention of a font. Nor did Glynne's (1877) on his visit to this church in 1847. John E. Vigar's Kent Churches website entry for this church [http://www.kentchurches.info/church.asp?p=Ifield] [18 February 2010] notes: "The church is Norman in origin but all is covered externally by depressing pebbledash." A modern font is noted and illustrated in the Roughwood British Churches Album entry for this church [http://www.roughwood.net/ChurchAlbum/Kent/Ifield/Ifield-St-Margaret.htm] [accessed 18 February 2010]. The font is octagonal, a Victorian (?) rendition of the basin Perpendicular design. The wooden cover is modern, probably 20th-century. [NB: we have no information on the medieval font(s) of this church]
