Noted in Glynne (1877): "The font is a plain octagon." John Vigar's Kent Churches' website [http://www.kentchurches.info/church.asp?p=Birling] [accessed 17 February 2010] notes: "the font cover, carved by daughters of the [Nevill] family in the nineteenth century. Each section is initialled on the inside so that you can see who carved it." [NB: the fabric of the church goes back to the 12th century, but this font is not the original]
